Aging in place / Naturally occurring retirement community (NORC)

I’m interested in creating, organizing an aging in place community, a la the Beacon Hill Village recently in the newspapers.

If anyone out there has any experience w/ this kind of project in small towns,  or rural areas, I’d like to hear from you. Thanks.

Aging in Place

We have been working for nearly two years to develop the concept of Aging in Place in San Francisco. We realized early on that we could only focus on one neighborhood as our model. We have used some of the structure of the Beacon Hill model, but have built on the resources, needs and very specific nature of the demographics of the smaller area. I think much of this same preparation would apply to a small town/rural project.

It has been a wonderful and exhausting process. We are ready to launch our program this fall….at last, after literally dozens of meetings, utilizing hundreds of hours of pro-bono time and paid time for consultants. It is a big task, but we are very excited about our new organization.

Our website is simply a "place holder" page at the moment, but will be vastly expanded in the very near future. We will be glad to share our experience with anyone. http://www.sfvillage.org/

There are many great websites on aging in place…I would do a search and just dive in.

Thanks for answering.  I’m eager to see how things turn out. The financial side, which I guess you’re involved in, seems especially scary. Best of luck with your fall launch.
