With all the new research that is coming out about the plasticity of the brain, I'm eager to connect with people who are involved in anything related to improving or maintaining cognitive ability.
For decades medical science thought the brain continued to decline from its peak around 30-40, but since we now know that brain aging, in many cases, is reversible, it is vitally important to get that word out. Otherwise, if things continue the way they are with people living to ever older ages and the incidence of Alzheimer's running about 50% in people 85 years or older, our country is just not going to be able to care for or afford to care for the number of people who will need care.
So, before this tidal wave hits us...it is critical that we start combining all we hear about physical fitness with brain fitness and really get the word out. So much can be done so cheaply to maintain high cognitive ability: eat right, minimize stress, stop smoking, get at least some moderate exercise AND exercise the brain.
Your insights, research, knowledge and/or references will be most appreciated.
