Jennie Chin Hansen

Jennie Chin Hansen, R.N., M.S.N., F.A.A.N, of San Francisco is a member of the AARP Board of Directors; a Senior Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco, Center for the Health Professions, chairing a three-year grant for the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation entitled the Integrated Nurse Leadership Project dealing with acute care hospital culture and safety; and a part time nursing faculty member at San Francisco State University.  She also has just been elected President-Elect of AARP and will become its President in May, 2008.  She will be the first boomer to become the organization’s president.

In 2005, Ms. Hansen transitioned from On Lok Senior Health Services, after nearly 25 years of service and leadership with the prototype of PACE (Program of All Inclusive Care to the Elderly).  PACE was signed into legislation in 1997 making this integrated acute and community chronic care Medicare/Medicaid program available to all 50 states.  She has practiced nursing in both urban and rural settings and taught in undergraduate programs.

 She currently serves in leadership roles with the Agency of Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ) Effective Healthcare Stakeholders group, Lumetra (California’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization), CalRHIO (California’s statewide regional health information organization), the Advisory Board of the Institute for the Future of Aging Services, the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellows Program and the California HealthCare Foundation Health Care Fellows Program.   She has been a two time delegate to the White House Conference on Aging.

Ms. Hansen received her B.S. from Boston College and her M.S. from the University of California, San Francisco and has received distinguished alumni awards from both institutions.
