Does anyone else object to the term "Boomers?"

It feels like a label that says, "Oh geeze, there are so many of them!" It's like any other derogatory name, it puts everyone involved into a very narrow category, ripe for prejudging.

A label or a name can't be

A label or a name can't be used for an entire generation from very different regions. The booming period was about 18 years so how can we use a term to name all the children that were born in that period of time all over US?
I would rather use that term not for them, but for their parents cercei argint.
We may say that these parents raised the birth rate to a boom level in the same period all over the country.

what about other labels?

I've never been comfortable with that designation, but I suspect some Generation X, Generation Y and Millennials don't like being called those things either. I try to avoid names for all groups and instead focus on the individual instead of the group.

labels

Jane - I've gotten to the point where I'm no longer labeled a boomer, but "honey", "sweetheart" and "dear".

Any label is only as derogatory as the recipient allows. And I don't allow any name or word to define my worth.

Start being proud of being a boomer - you're part of a great generation which has brought much to all of us - even those of us who are just a tad too old for that particular label!

I thought I was alone in my dislike the tag "Boomers"

However with brands in our society its sometimes least expenditure to change brand perception than in a name. I am afraid to say we are stuck with the name, Boomers, but perhaps we can change an negative perceptions. That I assume is what the Encore directive is about. Redefining the latter years in ways that have not been capable of by preceding generations. Our chapter has not been fully written, dont know if we will be compared to the Greatest Generation. But we can point to many social changes we ushered in and look forward for more toward that effort.
