This is an opportunity to share your successes and challenges and learn from colleagues who are also pioneering new ways for adults 50+ to transition to their encore careers — work that matters in the second half of life.

The Encore Leadership Network includes leaders from the nonprofit, corporate and public sectors, including academic institutions and think tanks and the philanthropic sector, who believe strongly in a triple win that can come from establishing Encore Careers as a new stage of work that matters in the second half of life. The Encore Leadership Network will help to support, refine and advance the ideas and practice of the Encore Career.

Join in the discussions with all Purpose Prize Winners and Fellows and other social innovators. This is a special group for use by social innovators, and Purpose Prize winners or fellows since 2006.

You can post questions or ideas for feedback from a dynamic set of winners and fellows who understand what it takes to be a social innovator working to make the world a better place.

The Life Planning Network (LPN) is a community of professionals from diverse fields who share a commitment to providing a broad spectrum of Life Planning services and resources for the Third Age. The Third Age is a life stage created by extended life expectancy into the eighties and beyond – a time that offers new possibilities for living in fulfillment and on purpose, including Encore careers.

PCC plans to develop student support staff and services to welcome encore students, define clear career pathways in a variety of fields, build bridges with employers and community organizations, and expand workforce development funding to direct encore workers toward the state’s high-need areas. This is a place to exchange ideas and engage in discussions about how to establish PCC as a premier “encore college.”

The first-ever Encore Careers Summit brought together hundreds of people in their encore careers, including winners of the Purpose Prize for social entrepreneurs over 60, with representatives of government, business, nonprofit organizations, national service, and academia for two days of talk, learning, networking and planning. Together, we launched a movement that could represent the most significant transformation of the workplace since the women’s movement.

We’re exploring ways to harness the encore opportunity to address urgent environmental issues, including but not limited to climate change. How might an army of experienced environmental actors (experts, managers, trainers, entrepreneurs, engineers, tradespeople, teachers, advocates, activists and others) help take proven approaches to scale?

The media play an important role in shaping attitudes. How can print, broadcast and online media help people understand the concept of an encore career and promote a movement of many experienced individuals working to improve society? Who are our target audiences? What are the “hooks” that interest reporters in telling encore stories? How can we popularize the value of experience?

This online community provides a way for Encore Fellows in the Silicon Valley to share with and learn from one another as you work at your nonprofit organization and with Civic Ventures. This shared learning is important to the success as we pilot a new social purpose internship to bring the talent of former corporate employees to the nonprofit sector.

Discovering What’s Next is a network of people and community organizations that connects individuals 50+ with information, inspires them and supports development of their ideas, and fosters involvement leading to action that benefits both individuals and the community. Most activities take place at the Newton Free Library, 330 Homer Street, Newton, MA 02459.

Help state and federal policymakers create ways to tap the talent of experienced Americans. The Encore Agenda draws on innovations in national service, workforce development, entitlement reform, pension policy and higher education. There are tremendous talent needs in the fields of education and youth development. Tutors and mentors; teachers in high-need fields like special education and math and science and English-language learning; people who can help middle and high school students plan for college.

What are the best ways to focus the time, talent, experience and idealism of people who have finished their midlife careers on helping the next generation succeed?

While everyone who can make a positive contribution to this group is invited to join, retired individuals with Medical or Public Health or Public Policy experience should (feel compelled to) join en masse and provide valuable leadership and guidance! We contemplate collaborating together to either devise a plan for the effective provision of health care services in the US, or come up with a set of recommendations to be implemented in such a plan.

Activities, at least initially, will be conducted through internet interaction.

Computers and technology are important tools in many encore careers. Whether you’re still getting comfortable or are a techno-whiz, this is the place to talk about your issues and questions: from laptops, smart phones to social media like blogs, Facebook and Twitter. Post here and let’s discuss.

A new encore fellowship program for journalists provides a jumping off point for a broader discussion of new roles for journalists who are challenged by the disruption of traditional media models.
