Janice Abu Shakrah

social worker, human rights advocate ; educator and age advocate

My career path doesn’t fit neatly into Then; and Now. I’m currently working in the field of aging, directing the Gerontology Program at Portland Community College. My first introduction to the field of aging, however, was a social worker position in the Old Age Assistance Program for the County of San Mateo, California, back when Ronald Reagan was the Governor.

Marci Alboher

Lawyer ; Author/Journalist/Speaker/Educator

In my first career, I was a lawyer. I enjoyed my work for the first several years, but increasingly I felt that it was out of alignment with my passions and interests. I represented corporations, not real people. And often, I didn’t believe in the issues about which I was asked to advocate.
