Getting the word out with a low budget

Our Grants To You program has the potential to win millions of dollars for local nonprofit organizations.
To make that happen, we will need to expand from our current 22 chapters to 200 and suceed in attracting thousands of citizens to take our on line grant research and writing class so that they can volunteer to assist their favorite, local nonprofit agency with their grant research and writing. Our focus for volunteers is on senior citizens (43%) and students (17%).
Our challenge is to get the word out so that interest in starting chapters and/pr taking classes is greatly expanded.
The term Viral Marketing has come to my attention.

Viral Marketing tips
Hi Paul,
It sounds like you have developed a valuable program, and hopefully you can spread the word cheaply through the internet. But it sounds like you need some tips, or even better to hook up with people in your organization who know their way around the web.
“Viral marketing” is just a new fangled name for an old concept. The idea is to tell as many people as you can about a great idea, and they tell all their friends, who in turn tell all their friends. But why would they tell their friends? You have to make it short and interesting and then get the exciting news out.
So for example, in your message right here, you could have put in a website link, to let us see for ourselves why this is important, and then hopefully everyone who sees your message would send it to everyone they know and so on.

Viral marketing
Viral marketing is spreading the word through other people’s networks. An intriguing idea gets picked up by individuals who tell their friends, who tell their friends, and so on. Twitter is a great place to begin.
But just posting your “ad” on Twitter and other social networks doesn’t work. You need to build credibility with others and add value to the community. Once you are perceived as a valuable contributor, people will willing “retweet” your message and it will have a life of its own.
