Continuing the Retirement Conversation – The Couple's Retirement Puzzle

Start: 06/21/2011 - 6:30 p.m.
End: 06/21/2011 - 9 p.m.

The first of 78 million boomers have begun to turn 65, with a life expectancy of an additional 20 to 30 years. Boomers are being challenged to redefine retirement and reinvent themselves and their relationships as they transition to the next part of life.

It is difficult enough for individuals to deal with change. For couples who need to communicate and make decisions together, it can be even more daunting. Couples often avoid talking about issues that are uncomfortable or bring up conflict.

The Couple's Retirement Puzzle, by Roberta Taylor and Dorian Mintzer, is a user-friendly guide to help couples communicate more effectively, make joint decisions and create a shared vision for the next part of life. On June 21, 2011, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., at the Newton Cultural Center, Taylor and Mintzer will run a workshop centered on how couples can plan together and prepare for what's next.

The authors will address such questions such as:

  • Are you and your partner in agreement about the need to continue working?
  • Have you talked about whether to stay put or relocate?
  • Do you agree on your obligations to adult children and aging parents?
  • Have you talked about how much time you want to spend together or spend exploring individual interests?

The fee is $25 per person. Click here to register.

Taylor is a licensed psychotherapist, career/life transition coach, couples relationship coach and speaker. Mintzer is a licensed psychotherapist, career/life transition coach, couples coach, executive coach, teacher and speaker.

The event is being sponsored by Discovering What's Next, a network of people and community organizations that help those 50 and older negotiate the transition they experience as they approach and journey through retirement.
