Encore Service Act

Encore Fellowships are a central feature of the Edward M. Kennedy National Service Act, first proposed by Senators Chris Dodd and Thad Cochran, along with Kennedy, and signed into law by President Obama. The act is designed to encourage more Americans to commit to national service and expand opportunities for them to do so, setting up as many as 10 Encore fellowships in each state to help carry out service projects in areas of national need, including education, health, energy and the environment, and poverty. The program provides training for fellows to move into full- or part-time service in the nonprofit sector or government. For more information, read the act's complete text.
