Try it out. Volunteer in the classroom to see how you like it. Experience Corps members tutor and mentor in 23 cities across the country.

Retrain on the fast track. Alternative certification programs can get you into a classroom quickly, if you already have a B.A. Community colleges are a good resource.

Take advantage of subsidies. Programs like IBM's Transition to Teaching, California's EnCorps Teachers and the Pentagon's Troops to Teachers provide up to $15,000 to cover the costs of courses and certification.
