Making $ense New England, a series combining expert advice with stories of how northern New Englanders are finding resourceful ways to weather the economic downturn, features a report on job retraining for boomers.
The segment features stories of finding work in the second half of life, such as Ed Chase, who was eligible for early retirement at IBM, where he was an engineer, but decided that "retirement just wasn't for me." He now works as a program manager at Vermont Associates for Training and Development, a nonprofit organization that aims to provide training and employment services to low income, mature Vermonters.
Asked about his decision to continue working, Ed Chase said: "I want to contribute. I want to continue to give."
The segment on job retraining for boomers begins at the 9:30 mark and lasts approximately 7-1/2 minutes.
