This one-hour webinar, held September 30, 2010, offered tips for community college administrators interested in offering courses for older students seeking encore careers. It also addressed the work-force needs of social-purpose and public-sector employers.

It was presented by Civic Ventures and the American Association of Community Colleges’ Plus50 Initiative.

The webinar was moderated by Diane Piktialis, senior fellow with Civic Ventures, who defines encore careers and shared lessons from past Encore College Initiative grantees.

She was joined by Rebecca Waters, former director of EducateVA’s Career Switchers Program, and Jan Abushakrah, faculty chair of Portland Community College’s gerontology program, who explained the challenges and successes of encore programs their colleges have offered.
