Encore Careers Course in Honolulu, Hawaii

The Kapuna Education Center at Kapiolani Community College in Honolulu, Hawaii invites you to join a four-part course, titled Encore Career Change and Life Transition for Boomers, which begins later this month. This course is for boomers looking to make a life transition by changing careers, semi-retiring or volunteering.

In a series of four workshops, participants are encouraged to fully explore and plan for their life transition to the Third Age – a period of creativity, meaning and growth. This course is designed for people with varying circumstances: those who are laid-off, retired, or desire to do something more meaningful.

Course work includes life review, transferrable skills assessment, interest inventory, networking, skill statement writing, resume writing, interview skills, internet job search, networking, and development of a life change philosophy. Individuals will be expected to participate in each session and self-exploration homework assignments.

This series of classes will be enjoyable and introspective and will prepare individuals for future career-change decisions. The goal of the class is for boomers to gain confidence for a paid or unpaid career change through preparation.

The instructor, Steven Cook, has 25 years experience in career exploration and planning. He was previously a vocational rehabilitation counselor in Hawaii and Montana, provided transition counseling services as a Navy Transition Counselor at Pearl Harbor, and for 10 years has taught a career exploration program. He has been a featured speaker at state and national conventions.

Dates: Wednesdays, October 20 and 27 and November 3 and 10
