"I'm just not inclined to take up a life of leisure," Paul Chapman told Valerie Creque.
Creque reports in the Contra Costa Times that Chapman, who served as principal of the Head-Royce School in Oakland, Calif., for 26 years is "rewiring" to an encore career honoring his commitment to education and the environment.
Chapman, 62, will serve as a principal-in-residence at the Center for Ecoliteracy in Berkeley, a visiting scholar at the schools of education for the University of California at Berkeley and Stanford University, and on the boards of directors for five nonprofit organizations.
Chapman told Creque that he was inspired to make Head-Royce a model green school after watching Al Gore's documentary, An Inconvenient Truth. Students helped move the school toward sustainable practices, including a healthy food program.
