Big Idea
Low-income housing communities for seniors in Santa Barbara, Calif., have computers with Internet access in their community rooms. However, there is no free, one-on-one computer instruction in those communities for residents with little or no computer experience. For seniors who lack access to transportation, attending free classes at libraries, colleges and elsewhere is not a viable alternative. And some seniors feel out of place in the structured environment of formal classrooms.
I’d like to bring the residents of the Villa Caridad and St. Vincent’s Gardens housing communities free Internet access and one-on-one instruction.
About Milton E. Morgan
I have roughly 50 years of experience in information and computer technologies and have worked for IBM and as a consultant. I have been working with several nonprofits to learn the pitfalls that could prevent turning my idea into a reality. I have lived in a low-income housing community for the past five years, an experience that has given me firsthand knowledge of how best to introduce low-income seniors to the Internet.
