Thanks for your comments, Katharyn and Steve. We launched Encore.org on something of a nonprofit shoestring and have built it with a very small number of people, so we haven’t been able to offer the range of features of commercial sites.

That said, we’re in the process of planning a redesign that will be launched this fall. We’ll soon be formally asking for suggestions and feedback from the Encore Nation community, but feel free to suggest improvements at any time. Specifically, if there are other sites that you think do forums well, please point us to them.

Specifically to the point about uploading photos: personal profiles can be added under the My Profile link in the left column. Photos can also be added to News posts. If anybody has problems doing this, just send us a note at info@encore.org.

I agree with you on the functionality of the forums on the Encore site. The same holds true for the Idealist site. For instance, the day that I discovered the site, I thought I saw a place to upload a picture, but I cannot locate that now.

As you said, the format of the site and the associated level of user-friendliness, is generally lacking!
