Civic Ventures has hired Marci Alboher, one of the nation’s top experts on career issues and workplace trends, to help boomers find encore careers. As a senior fellow, she will lend her expertise – in the form of columns, blogs, interviews and educational curricula – to the millions of experienced workers who are seeking work that combines personal meaning, continued income and social impact. Encore.org and the Encore Careers campaign are initiatives of Civic Ventures.
A former blogger and columnist for The New York Times, Alboher is the author of One Person/Multiple Careers: A New Model for Work/Life Success (Warner Books, 2007). She contributes regularly to “The Takeaway” on public radio, writes the “Working the New Economy” blog for Yahoo, and is an adviser and mentor editor for The Op-Ed Project, which is working to make more women experts available to top media outlets and online forums.
"For so many people, searching for an encore career is a DIY (do-it-yourself) project," says Civic Ventures CEO and founder Marc Freedman. "We need to find ways to make it easier to transition from the end of a midlife career to the beginning of a new stage of work – one that can last 10 or 20 years, provide great personal rewards and fill critical societal needs. Marci will be a critical voice in our efforts to reach out to job seekers."
