During three fast-paced days, attendees at the Purpose Prize Summit at Stanford University looked back to honor this year’s 10 winners and 49 fellows and looked forward to helping incubate the growing movement that promises to make encore careers possible for more individuals. Here’s a roundup of Encore.org’s coverage of the Summit:

Personal stories of transition, often marked with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, moved some listeners to tears. In their acceptance speeches, the five $100,000 and five $50,000 Purpose Prize recipients told how humble ideas gained momentum as their passion grew. They agreed that The Prize will help change many more lives.

Ellen Goodman said she’s letting herself “go” and is giving up her newspaper column to focus on her semicolon – the pause between her journalism career and whatever comes next.

Tom Tierney, founder of Bridgespan and former CEO of Bain & Co., told a riveting personal story about being mentored by John Gardner, the leader-activist who engineered the Great Society.

In her blog, Marci Alboher focused on a question raised by Laura Carstensen during a panel discussion about new social norms engendered by encore careers: What if it was considered normal to work into your 80s instead of into your 60s?

“What a weekend!” exclaimed Jim Emerman, executive vice president of Civic Ventures, during his recap the highlights of the Summit.
