Website Editing Standards
The following is a quick reference guide that will help you to understand the basic formatting for our new website and how it works. If you have any questions, please contact Aanchal Dhar ([email protected]) or Hilary Andersen ([email protected]).
Adding new posts (i.e. Featured, Viewpoints, EFN)
- Word count for headlines: Aim for 10-12 characters
- All headlines should be in initial caps (i.e. “Millennials: Allergic to Politics?”)
- Include the post publication date at the end of post (example: Published: May 25, 2018
Adding new media hits
- Logos should be sized at 225 x 175
- All headlines should be in initial caps (i.e. “Millennials: Allergic to Politics?”)
- To share the media outlet and date for media published to bio pages (i.e. Marc, Marci’s), copy/paste this code in the “Excerpt” box and update the blue text below with the link, media outlet and date: <a href=”https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/27/business/retirement/nonparents-legacy-wills.html” target=”_blank”>NEW YORK TIMES</a> | February 27, 2018
Media Library
- When uploading images, always include the image size at the end of the file name (i.e. name the Next Avenue media logo as “Next Avenue 225 x 175”)
Photo sizes
- Media logos: 225 x 175
- Thumbnail images for posts: 320 x 200
- Headshots for our bio page: 300 x 300
Using stock photos
- As a rule, consider using stock photos whenever you can’t find a high-resolution image for a post. Here’s a list of free stock photo sites you can use:

Other:
- Use initial caps when adding a new module or section header.
- “Encore” is lower-case only when used in our logo, otherwise it’s capitalized.
