I have an MA and PhD in Educational Psychology and spent a couple of years after graduating as a Counseling Psychologist at a university counseling center. I felt that the level of contact with youth in distress was stressful and left to take a position as a research analyst in the Psychiatry Department at a university. I enjoyed the intellectual challenge and growth involved in mastering new analytic techniques but found the men in charge to be incredibly self-absorbed and unsupportive.

I am a professional portrait painter and I teach oil and acrylic painting.

My “first life” was in the field of dentistry. Working initially as a dental hygienist, I went on to manage the office operations of one of the most progressive practices in the state of Rhode Island. My next career was in the resort industry. Starting in Guest Services management, I quickly progressed to launching a sales division for a 4-Star, 4-Diamond resort chain in Vermont in the 1980s. The ‘90s found me in California, pursuing a second degree at the University of San Francisco (Jesuit), followed by a stint in marketing.
