My Encore Story

For over a decade, Ms. Paschal has worked relentlessly in the nonprofit sector for Every Child Is Ours, an organization that strives to promote educational equity around the world.  She has built life long relationships between communities around the world.  Children in New Hampshire have conducted several book/school supply drives for the schools in Mexico and South Africa.  Children in the Mississippi Delta have donated clothes and school resources to schools in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, Acuna, Mexico, and Kanana, South Africa.  Children and teachers from New Haven have contributed over 10,000 books for youth libraries in Kanana and Lesotho.  The list of material, as well as cultural, exchanges proves to be lengthy.  Most important in all of the projects Ms. Paschal has organized is the involvement of the local people.  In every project, local community members and organizations are fully empowered with the responsibility of maintaining the project upon the departure of Every Child Is Ours.  In South Africa, for instance, the Kanana Retired Teachers Club has been leading the effort to assemble and maintain 8 libraries in Kanana.  In addition, the Kanana Retired Teachers led the distribution of thousands of books across the township.  In her work, Ms. Paschal has always operated with a high level of respect for all she encounters.  She listens to the local people of each community to learn about the needs of the people.  Once she is given a direction, she lets no obstacles stand in her way of reaching her vision to provide the schools and children with the resources they need to be successful.   To join her in her efforts, Ms. Paschal has recruited an international board, which includes the former education secretary for President Mandela, the former associate FEMA director for the Clinton administration, numerous youth leaders, the First Lady of Acuna, Mexico, teachers from across the country, and many more from a broad spectrum of professions.  She has wisely chosen a team with different life experiences and perspectives to gain a broader view of the world.   Ms. Paschal’s dedication to the mission of Every Child Is Ours is truly inspiring.  Her belief that every child has the basic human right to an education is a belief that should be shared world-wide.  Ms. Paschal is a true role model to our future generation of leaders.
