My Encore Story
I volunteer at Computers for Families (CFF), a non-profit organization, through sponsorship by Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) and IBM’s On Demand Community to help bridge the Digital Divide for young students from low-income families.
My passion is to use the CFF model to create an initiative that establishes Senior Learning and Wireless Broadband Centers for Affordable Housing Developments. Each center’s mission would include placing small laptops costing less than $300 that are designed for wireless communication and access to the Internet, e.g., Netbooks, in the apartments of seniors.
A center is currently being proposed for the El Patio Gardens Family and Senior Community where I reside. The "CFF Blueprint for Replication," which I created as my first effort to fulfill my vision, was selected as a finalist for the Stockholm Challenge 2008.
