Encore.org is a project of Civic Ventures, the nonprofit organization that started the conversation rolling about the value of putting experienced individuals to work in paid jobs that help solve community problems. While Encore.org is not a job placement service, it is the “go to” place for people interested in finding encore careers and those who want to create opportunities for encore careers. You’ll find everything you need to know about encore careers that combine personal meaning and social impact with continued income in the second half of life.

To get started, Sign Up to become a member (it’s free), then create a profile so that others who share your interests can connect with you.

The site is organized in four sections:

The LEARN section tells you About Encore Careers and About Us. It also offers details about our Encore Colleges program that helps community colleges create encore programs for boomers, our Encore Fellowships initiative that transitions experienced professionals from the private sector into the nonprofit world, and our Research and Policy projects that track the progress of the encore careers movement. The News & Opinion section keeps you in the loop about what’s happening with encore careers. You can read All Blog Posts and comment on them, see Media Coverage of encore careers, or view Videos and Podcasts.

The WORK section guides you through the process of finding an encore career in three stages: Explore, Prepare and Find. You can start your search by visiting the Get Started Guide, or drill down on encore careers in five popular fields in the Top 5 Encore Job Fields section. One page is devoted to Education and Training. The Advice and Resources section offers guidance by experts and hundreds of resources, and Job Listings now include job leads from the Encore community. Employers interested in hiring encore workers have a section all their own: For Encore Employers.

In CONNECT, you can Get Involved, join an Online Community, start your own online group, find Local Organizations in your area and learn about upcoming Events. The Encore Careers Meeting Tool Kit helps you get an encore careers discussion started in your community. To tap into Encore Careers groups on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and other sites, visit our Social Networking page. To get inspired, read the Stories of individuals who have found encore careers.

The PRIZE section is the place to learn all about the annual $100,000 Purpose Prize Award, which recognizes social innovators over age 60. Read about Prize Winners and Fellows, watch their videos, learn about the Impact of their work, then Nominate someone – or yourself – for The Prize.

We welcome your suggestions and ideas for improving the site.
