There’s a thin silver lining to some very dark economic clouds: The areas where employers are still hiring happen to be those of interest to people seeking encore careers.
Health care, education and government service are all areas where jobs are being added, even as the overall economy shrinks, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The employment numbers are indeed miserable, but Education & Health Care and Government were among the only industry sectors that gained jobs in the latest government jobs report.
According to the report: "Health care employment continued to grow in December (32,000), with over-the-month job gains in ambulatory services (14,000) and hospitals (12,000). In 2008, health care added 372,000 jobs."
