Whenever I speak about the growing interest in encore careers, people ask how they can get started on finding their encores. They want practical steps that can help them move into a new kind of work that blends making a living with making a difference.
Besides our website, Encore.org, there’s a new place to begin: The Encore Career Handbook.
Now available for preorder, the book is a comprehensive guide that mixes stories of encore trailblazers with nuts-and-bolts advice. The author, Marci Alboher, a former New York Times career columnist, is a colleague of mine at Encore.org and someone who intimately understands the encore transition.
Last week The Associated Press – in a story that appeared on the websites of numerous media outlets, including The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Denver Post – called The Encore Career Handbook an “invaluable resource.” Please read the story, comment and share.
And consider preordering the book, which will ensure that you will receive it as soon as it comes out in January. (Those who preorder will receive access to an advice teleconference with Marci and other experts. So save your receipt. Details to come.) Buying the book will also help support Encore.org’s efforts to make it easier for millions of people to pursue second acts for the greater good.
Too often, the transition to an encore career has been a do-it-yourself proposition, with little guidance and plenty of pitfalls. Soon, you won't have to go it alone.
