Registered nurses looking for encores that will keep them in the nursing profession can check out two new online resources about adding to their credentials.
RN to MSN Online has compiled a list of schools that have programs through which registered nurses may earn a Master of Science in Nursing, or MSN. Such a degree can be a gateway to serving as a nurse administrator, nurse educator, nurse practitioner and other such positions.
“My goal was to compile an unbiased and updated list of every school that offers a RN to MSN degree in the U.S.,” says Maryanne Osberg, co-founder of the nonprofit website. “I felt the existing lists were not comprehensive or easy to find, and many websites have outdated information and links.”
In a similar vein, NursePractitionerDegree.org and Online Nurse Practitioner Programs list information for registered nurses about becoming nurse practitioners, professionals who are qualified to handle a broader range of health care services, including making diagnoses and prescribing medications. Because becoming a nurse practitioner requires advanced training, these websites – like RN to MSN Online – lists colleges that offer MSN programs.
